This past season, Boston Celtics point guard seemed reluctant about playing for his national team.
However, after a year’s worth of indecision and negotiations, he finally committed to play for Team USA this summer.
“It took me a while to make a decision due to my extended season,” Rondo said last month.
“With other guys not being able to participate this summer, I'm glad that I can come in to help the team succeed and represent my country.”
Coach K is more than happy too.
At 21, Rondo is one of the best point guards in the NBA, a young player who was named to the All-NBA defensive first team in 2009-2010, an All-Star who already won a NBA title with the Boston Celtics.
The unofficial leader of the Celtics averaged career-highs in points (13.7), assists (9.8) and steals (2.3).
In only three years, the point guard has grown from a lightning quick but inconsistent player to a star.
When at full speed, Rondo appears to be everywhere on the court, with his athleticism, a tremendous first step and an unbelievable wingspan.
Whatever happens on the floor, Rondo plays like someone determined to prove something.
The better the opposing point guard will be, the harder he will compete.
